Crystal Lake has been turned into an underground research facility to capture and study Jason Voorhees. Once captured in 2008, They begin to study his regeneration DNA and see if they can kill him. Jason gets loose and the facility goes on lock down to prevent him from returning to the surface. Now the year is 2445 and Earth can no longer sustain life. Researchers from Earth 2 discover the remains of the Crystal Lake research facility as well as a frozen Jason and a project leader from the facility named Rowan who is still alive. Not aware of what they've found, the team brings them aboard hoping to make a lot of money if they can revive Rowan. Soon, Jason wakes up and the crew are doomed. Rowan tries to warn them what they are up against but, to Professor Lowe, Jason is a 500 year old artifact that he thinks they have under control. Jason X takes Jason to a whole new environment with high tech weapons and even a female robot named Kay-Em 14. But, nothing will prepare you for the ending as... Evil gets an upgrade!
At first I thought Jason in space was a long shot but, I was pleasantly surprised. Jason X is a fun ride and was a risk well worth taking. 'Rowan' played by Lexa Doig wakes up 500 years in the future. Unfortunetly so does Jason and he adapts well to his new environment. "It's ok guys, he only wanted his machete back!" is a memorable line from 'Professor Lowe' played by Jonathan Potts. Lowe is a mercenary out for money and he see dollar signs all over Rowan and Jason. They soon learn that Jason can not be stopped and one by one the crew gets smaller. 'Tsunaron' played by Chuck Campbell and 'Kay-Em 14' played by Lisa Ryder are two memorable characters. Other great characters are 'Sgt. Brodski' played by Peter Mensah and 'Azrael' played by Dov Tiefenbach. Kane Hodder plays Jason and works well with the new look. You can see it in Kane's movements that Jason was more confident after his upgrade. Again this film has a feel all it's own and is not like any other Jason film. We get to see just how intelligent Jason really is in a new environment as he takes on a futuristic Swat team in their own back yard. With the ship breaking apart and Jason on the loose this one is one of the most action packed of the series. The first Jason filmed and trasferred to digital so the CGI is very well done. The back story is believable and fits well with the rest of the Friday lore. Sci-Fi / Horror fans will love this one for the high tech weapons and the innovative death scenes. Jason's final battle with the android is only the beginning as Jason becomes even more powerful as Uber Jason. Over all this is a great film with good entertainment value. Since the story takes place primarily on a spaceship, the backgrounds are full of color. I did not like the hockey mask in the beginning of the film. I'm a fan of the original version. Even if you are like me and Jason in space sounds weird at first, go ahead and give it a watch, I think you will like it!
