An In Depth Interview With Kevin Spirtas

AKA Nick
Friday the 13th Part 7

Hello Kevin, Thank you for taking the time to talk to us fans about your experience in making Friday the 13th part 7-The New Blood.

You saw the original F13th in high school and were thrilled to get the role in part 7, Tell us what it was like?

Well to tell you the truth— It was only the first one that scared me—because it was new to the world- There was never before a Fri 13th film... And all the suspense was really incredible.

What other F13th films have you seen?

When I was cast in Fri – VII, I went out and rented all the Fri’s (up to part six) to see what I was in for I eventually saw them all That’s it- I have never seen any past Part VII.

Because of the special effects, were the scenes with Tina (Lar Park Lincoln) more difficult to film or did it just take longer?

Both! When you have a scene with SFX— you not only have to be patient with the SFX being set – but you also have to get into character and maintain the level of emotion called for within the scene.

What was your favorite scene in part 7?

I would have to say it was the scene when Melissa gets the axe in the head! – AND, I would also have to the sleeping bag getting hit in the tree.

Did you do all your own stunts? And if so, what was it like going up against Jason Voorhees? (Kane Hodder)

The only stunt I didn’t do was when I was thrown off the dock into the row boat – as for Kane, he’s the best Jason of all the Fri 13th’s – He’s the most professional and creative ACTOR, under that mask!

Have you kept in contact with anyone from the cast of part 7?

Kane Hodder, Lar Park Lincoln, and Billy Butler.

Did you get to keep any souvenirs from the set?

I did have my ‘Nick’ Jean Jacket for the longest time—but I eventually auctioned it off to raise some money Cancer Benefit.

Have you ever been back to visit the filming location?

No.

If you were to get a call, would you do another F13th film? After all, Nick did survive.

You bet your hatchet I would! I did have a lot of fun while filming the Prt 7.

You have played a wide range of characters from horror films to soap operas, Is there any style of acting that you like best?

As much as I love telling stories through film—I’d have to say that live theatre and performing in front of an audience is always my favorite venue.

From your vast career, What character are you most recognized as?

Dr. Craig Wesley from Days of Our Lives… then Nick from F 13 7.

Tell us about your new DVD and CD "Nights and Days."

Well, I have a one man show called "Nights and Days”, 22 songs & story that tell my journey from my nights working on Broadway and my days working on Days of Our Lives and other jobs in film & TV in Hollywood. (I even do homage to all my slasher films with a funny little song) I even do a whole segment on my job as being the standby for Hugh Jackman in Hit Musical: The Boy From Oz— The life story of Peter Allen. The show was taped and recorded live at the El Portal Theatre in Los Angeles… And people can purchase the CD & DVDs online (www.kevinspirtas.com & www.myspace.com/kevinspirtas) and/or purchase them after my show when I perform it on tour at many different venues around the country. If you like pop and classic Broadway music—You will LOVE this show!

Any final words for your fans?

Look for me in the upcoming film: ALBINO FARM – I play an albino preacher – you WONT RECOGNIZE ME!!!!! It should be out sometime in the next 8 – 9 months! And it's a really great script with lots of gore and great SFX Also-- thanks to you and all the fans out there for the continued support. I truly appreciate it!

I have a question I forgot to ask in Baltimore. Why were you credited as Kevin Blair in part 7?

I used to go by the professional name Kevin Blair… I eventually reclaimed my family name Spirtas.
