An In Depth Interview With Richard Brooker

AKA Jason Voorhees Friday the 13th Part 3

You were hired during your interview, Did you have a screen test and what did they ask you to do?

No, I had no screen test. After a lengthy conversation with Steve Minor, he hired me for the role .

Every scene took longer to shoot because of the 3D, What scene was your favorite that was most fun to shoot?

Every scene was interesting. I don’t know if I have one particular (favorite) scene. It was all a lot of work and we all had a lot of fun shooting.

What was your first impression of the hockey mask?

I thought it was an interesting concept and a good story line. No one ever thought it would become such an icon!

There were two different faces for Jason in Part 3. One had more of a demon type face and the other was the look we know from the film. Which did you like better?

The latter one, Stan Winston designed the original one that kind of evolved during the filming.

You did everything in the film except the hanging scene. Why didn't they let you do that and do you remember who did?

Due to Insurance reasons its always very hard for the actor to do their own stunts. I guess they figured it was to much of a risk to let me do it myself.

The last scene of Jason lying on the barn floor, were there any takes of that scene where they wanted Jason to twitch or move?

I don’t recall, I think they wanted to show him as “possibly” dead.

We at Crystal Lake After Dark have been talking about the dream sequence, and if Mrs.Voorhees should have came up out of the water with or without her head at the end of Part 3. Some of us feel that you as Jason should have pulled Chris (Dana Kimmel) under the water. How do you feel about the ending??

The ending was a dream sequence, I believe to set it up for The Final Chapter. It was set to make you believe that maybe he was not dead. Which he wasn’t.

Where you asked to come back for The Final Chapter?

No.

In the Part 3 Commentary, you said you would play Jason again if they asked you. What would you do different as "zombie" Jason?

I don’t think I would play Jason again if it was set to be a “zombie” Jason.

Have you watched any other Friday the 13th's?

Yes I have watched the first couple but not the later ones.

Do you have any Friday the 13th memorabilia from the set of Part 3?

Unfortunately they would not let me keep anything from the movie. I only have some limited photographs.

What conventions will you be at in the near future?

Don’t do many conventions. In fact I have never done any in the US, besides ComicCon in San Diego. I have done one in Germany and 1 in England. I am however scheduled to do some more in the near future.Check my website www.richardjbrooker.com for a schedule!

Any final words to your fans?

Love the fans and I'm very grateful that they have kept Jason alive for so long…Just beware of walking in the woods...

I have to say that Part 3 is my favorite and you are my favorite Jason! I'm honored to have done this interview! Thank You so much!!
