An In Depth Interview With Shavar Ross

AKA Reggie the Reckless Friday the 13th Part 5: A New Beginning

How did you get started in the business as an actor at your young age?

My father was the actor and my parents were separated. When I was 7 years old I came to California during my school's Christmas vacation to visit my father and got discovered by an agent at a play.

Have you seen Friday the 13th Part 1-4 before shooting Part 5?

I vaguely remember those but I watched part 4 cuz my friend Corey Feldman was in it. I shot my second commercial with him back in 81 a Nestle's Crunch commercial.

How did you come to play Reggie in Friday the 13th Part 5?

Oh yeah...well i audition a lot and i think being on different strokes helped a lot but i did not know what the movie was called till the day I arrived on the set. Even then it was a big secret, it was called "repetition".

Was your character Reggie the Reckless anything like yourself back then?

Yeah sort of...every role has always been a part of myself actually

As a child were you at any time truly scared during any of the scenes in the movie? Especially the barn scene at the end?

No, not really...everything was really hilarious and quite corny to me at the time

Friday the 13th Part 5 has an impostor Jason present because the real Jason Voorhees was killed in Part 4. In Part 6 he was brought back to life and is now a zombie creature ... What Jason do you like best? Zombie or Human?

Hmmm... yea in 5 he was fake what a bummer...I think I like the human one better because he was more surreal even though he was human.

Did you keep anything from the set of Friday the 13th Part 5?

I don't even have anything from the movie...I don't even own that new DVD release or the actual movie.

Have you continued to watch the Friday the 13th movies after Part 5 and if so what Friday the 13th is your Favorite that you weren't in?

I think I went to see part 6...i think its where Jason was in this lake and he was like electrified and he came up out of the water Possibly Jason takes Manhattan I don't remember seeing any others after that, I saw bits of Freddy vs Jason maybe 5 minutes worth lol

If they asked you to come back for a future Jason movie in which they brought back all the past survivors would you consider doing it?

Yeah sure ... why not as long as they don't want to chop my head off like they wanted to in Part 6.

You were asked to be in Part 6?

Yes but I turned it down, so they had to change part of the concept. They wanted me to get killed off in the beginning.

Do people recognize you now that you're all grown up?

I still get recognized for Reggie sometimes but only from white rocker guys lol

How many films have you worked on through out your career and which one's stand out in your mind above the rest as great experiences?

I worked on a few films but mostly TV movies and television stuff. "Booker" about the life of young Booker T. Washington was my favorite but F13 5 was the most fun to shoot!

What are you doing now/What would you like to do?

I'm on the computer 24 hours a day, I'm a director now prepping for my first film, I've been learning Photoshop CS2 and have just started my photography business. It would be cool if you could plug the photography thing.

Hey man I appreciate your time and you can plug anything you want there!

Cool thanks so much I'm designing my own website at http://shavar.com/

Well, that was "An In Depth Interview" and I appreciate this so much! Is there anything you would like to say to the fans after all these years?

Tell them thanks for being fans and keeping Friday the 13th alive..and sorry that part 5 wasn't the best of them.

Actually people seem to enjoy it a lot and especially you and your "brother" Demon! Haha He is great! boyh of you were great together! Impostor or not it's an enjoyable film and in memory of this day I will watch it tonight!

I just chatted with Miguel (Demon) the other day by email...I loved being in the theaters and watching the audience jump to their feet when I left Pam after my girlie scream lol

Haha that high pitch scream is classic!

One scream was so loud they had to put music to it, it was also cool to see a line around the whole block in Westwood California during the premier. We hung out in Hawaii all the time when i was doing Magnum PI and he was on tour of duty.

Wow thats great to hear that you kept in touch with him afterwards!
