An In Depth Interview With Warrington Gillette

AKA Jason Voorhees Friday the 13th Part 2

With the huge success of Friday the 13th Part 1 what was the feeling going into Part 2?

Pressure to make it better. My character really came alive in Part II. That was the beginning.

Friday the 13th Part 2 is the ONLY film in which Jason wore anything besides the trademark Hockey Mask. How do you feel about that and what do you prefer the sack or the Hockey Mask?

The sack unveiling a horrifically scary deformed face. Hockey Masks are as scary as an exposed mangled up face ready to kill you! the sack was scarier by far!

The scene of you jumping out of the window was a dream sequence. So in "movie reality" it never took place. Was that the intention of that scene while you filmed it or was that conclusion later drawn in the writing of Part 3 when the opening scene shows Jason still lying in his shack pulling the machete out of his arm?

No ...[it was filmed to be the real deal

I read that you had an accident when you first tried jumping through the window what was that like and were you hurt?

No biggie....just didn't break through the wood and glass. It was my first jump so I didn't know what to expect. I was young and never jumped through a window before.

Many Fans consider Friday the 13th Part 2 the greatest installment of all 8. How do you feel knowing that you played the biggest scene in that movie?

I feel great and happy that I played a part in horror film history. Now I'd like to parlay that into something great for myself and the global horror fans.

Did you continue to watch the Friday the 13th movies and if so what is your Favorite one besides Part 2?

Tough question, I did go on with my life expecting the franchise to end but they kept coming. I didn't really see each one until I got the DVD box set. Friday the 13th is by far the best and most realistic. Some of them are like a comedy instead of a scary flick. Jason goes to Outer Space ......Please....... Keep it real please.

That almost answers my next question, How do you feel about the direction they took Jason Voorhees in?

When its gets out of control and stupid then you just laugh and look for another film. very true Hitchcock mastered the art of scaring you by doing nothing. That's why fans all say they like the older ones better. More bite. I like the thriller's that scare the hell out of you.

In Friday the 13th Part 6 Jason was brought back to life and is now a Zombie creature. What do you prefer the zombie Jason or the human Jason.

The human Jason. Lets keep it as real as possible please. Otherwise people start laughing instead of peeing in their pants. Night of the Living Dead, Shawn of the Dead, Zombies rising out of the earth are comedic for me.

You and Steve Dash have buried the hatchet. Did he take any of the fun out of being Jason for you?

Yes, he made it a serious conflict to the point where I walked away. I had fun with it all these years and then he came forward and started making a lot of false claims. He even claimed to have stuff special effects people did and the Director did. I go to conventions for fun and to try and bring some happiness to some fans and their kids who really love the character. When Dash jumped in with his crusade as " The real Jason " , a lot fans just moved on. He damaged the fun for a lot of people. In the real world no one really cares who did what and when, they like the overall character and franchise and are happy to know all those that participated. No one wants to see people fighting over nothing important. Its not like it was a great acting role! It was the success of the next 10 films that is worth discussing.

Tell a little bit about your movie project Bloody Social.

A story about a "Sociopath" who conspires to kill her husband.....TRUE STORY in Americas land of the superrich PALM BEACH The personification of evil. The plot is the story of the the son's journey for the truth and justice A band of wild "JASON VOORHEES" fans take matter into their hands and begin a bloody crusade for revenge against the conspirators who were responsible for the murder, because the victim was JASON's father in real life ! wow, it sounds great! The evil Villainess is "Bloody Mary" and she kills her husband to make way for the new lover Andres Pusero and to protect her massive steel fortune. As Lady Devonshire always said " Divorce never.....Murder daily. " I am trying to get Farah Fawcett to play Bloody Mary.

What other films can we see you in and what film was your best experience?

I have only done two films; Time Walker and Friday the 13th Part II. I quit my acting career to become a stock broker. Brought the machete to Wall Street. After a 10 year run I have decided to return to the entertainment industry with Bloody Social. Obviously my brief stint as Jason Voorhees was the best experience. People are still talking after 20 years! Jason fans are incredibly loyal. They really follow the franchise closely and love the character.

What conventions will we be able to see you at in the next year?

I am going to Screamfest in Boca Raton this October. They were kind enough to invite me, so I'll attend. The organizers, Pete Mangelli and his crew do a great job are very nice to me. how about Chiller Thriller in NJ at the end of October I may be in LA at that time.

Any final words for your loyal fans?

Thanks for being so supportive throughout the years! JASON fans are the best and most devoted! I look forward now to doing something new that will be equaling as entertaining and scary! If any fans would like to join my partnership at any level for the new Movie, Bloody Social, please email me for more info. wg@jason2kills.com The fans of JASON are doing the killing so I thought you would like it.
